Week 4

Week 4: Creating An Insanely Great Free Product

Looking for past lessons? Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3

The #1 request/goal so far in Summer Of Marketing is to get 1,000 email subscribers.

So let me just help you get there this instant, add these emails to your email list:

noahlovesyou1@gmail.com

noahlovesyou2@gmail.com

noahlovesyou3@gmail.com

...

noahlovesyou1000@gmail.com

Pop the champagne! Now you are internet rich and your passive income will start flowing in.

“Noah you are so silly,” I know you are thinking...

But I thought you wanted emails!

Oh. Quality emails. Got it. Yea, that’s different.

You can get emails doing many things but it’s your relationship with your readers that will set yourself apart.

At AppSumo the #3 way we’ve grown our email list quickly is through high quality FREE products.

Then we told our readers about it.

And they shared it, which subsequently got us...

4,520 new email subscribers and $60,738.71 in revenue from those people.

Insanely great content for free, for the win! #FTW

When you create great content, it begins to build a chain of value from you to your customer.

That chain grows as you send them more valuable content (free or paid) in the future.

(My favorite way to truly understand this is thinking about homeless people vs your mom. If your mom asked for $1 you are 100,000x more likely to give it to her than a random stranger.)

Relationships = trust = increased willingness to buy from you

Week 4 Activity: Creating something free that’s INSANELY Great

a) Make a list of the top 10 tools for your industry that you already love

b) Write up thorough reviews of WHY you love them and HOW to use them.

c) Save it as a PDF.

d) Give it away to your email list and on your site in exchange for an email address.

Submit a link and a short description to your PDF as a comment on Week 4. We'll choose the one with the best content & best design with an offer to all of Summer of Marketing to get it for free.

(You can use ListBuilder by SumoMe that you set up last week. Just change the copy and the success/thank-you page to the PDF.)

Love,

Noah & Tyler

P.S. Rafael installed SumoMe 2 weeks ago (got ahead a bit) and gained 554 new email subscribers.

If i can add one consideration about this post and how appsumo works...

It's very well worked en relation of how every product is presented by its specific landing page. Not only describes the product but also generates a good feedback and following through share and comments tools.

This week I've learned all considerations from begin to end about all aspects of product communication and relationship with customers all in one. Thank's a lot!

It takes me more than expected but I'm happy with the result.
I've added a form to offer the document in a exchange of email account, and I left the pop-up, some minor tweaks and configured to work smart mode (14 days).
The form contains a picture because I think it can help opt-in.
I've reworked the text to highlight users benefits of downloading the file.
I also added the government number for data protection, an extra confidence point.

That's all folks!

ready to jump into week 5.

All the best!

Jesús

P.S. Ah! you can check the result here kobykoom.com

Terribly late with this task..our site is still under construction!
Instead of creating a PDF, we want to add free high quality advices and tips for EU funded projects, info about the European Commission initiatives and lists of all calls for proposal open.

I didn't create a PDF, because we have decided to do a book giveaway. I decided again using anything that has a popup for the mail list because I hate popups, and almost always leave a site when I'm hit with one. The list will grow more slowly, but I will feel better about it in the long run. Popups are the kind of marketing I don't like.

hello Noah and everyone,

I was hoping you could help me decide my free product. I’m not a business or have products for sale, I’m a filmmaker. I focus on comedic shorts. My fan base doesn’t appear to be other film makers or content creators, mostly fans of comedy videos who I email when I have something new. The obvious wound be a link to a private short you can only see if you sign up, but that seems unfair to Facebook and twitter fans that aren’t on the email list. I’m open to any suggestion at this point!

At this week i create two actions :

1. I create an pdf with tips about Android
2. I created a form where users can request topics they want on blog. It helped that I already know what will generate more income in the publications.

Hey Noah!

Instead of doing a pdf file, I created my material directly on my site (on a page not indexed by search engines), that people can only access by having the link. Here it is

http://maquinasdemusica.com/tire-o-maximo-seu-overdrive/

By doing that, I was able to use a more detailed material as videos and audios.

Hi,
Why not index that page?
If you indexed that, you can access to more audience through search engines.

Just finished this eBook last Friday that helps people effectively implement enterprise software (so many companies get it wrong).

While it's not a list of 10 tools that I use in my industry, it does outline the use of Google Forms and Google Sites to help capture and report training statistics throughout the project. It also provides an example of using Oracle UPK to create Job Aids and user manuals and lists some popular screen capturing tools.

I still plan to do a write up on a couple of collaboration tools I use which I'll come back and post.

In the meantime, here's a link to the 52-page eBook:

http://lisoblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Shift-Gearing-Up-For-a-Software-Implementation.pdf

Have a great day, peeps.

Best,
Carlos

Hi everyone,

started writing this eBook from scratch on Tuesday and finished it today (Wednesday). It is about 5 tools that help me as a digital marketer. I wanted to make 10 as Noah suggested, but not enough time for it.

I will probably add 5 more in the future 🙂

Here is the link:

http://beyondbacklinks.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/5-Tools-that-will-Save-You-Time-Each-Day.pdf

I haven't set it up yet with the pop up from Week 3, because I missed it. I will catch up on the weekend!

Hope you like it, good luck everyone and thanks again Noah for doing this. It is awesome.

We did something a bit different as well.

Last month we released a free theme on our marketplace of paid themes. Users needed to sign up in order to download it so we get their email addresses for email marketing purposes.

It's a gotten a few hundred downloads already.

I went all out on this one. I had written an article that details step-by-step how my audience (Transformational Entrepreneurs - coaches, healers, teachers, and leaders) can set up their business online from scratch - taking into consideration their clients, scheduling, payments, and other coaching details that are pretty important and take up a lot of their time.

You gave me the idea of making it into a PDF as a quick checklist - and send them the PDF and article with all the details when they subscribe! So here it is http://www.katwebdesigns.co/freechecklist.html

Thank you Noah!

Alright, so I didn't follow exercise step by step, but I made a huge success with free content. I wrote a free 60-pages gorgeous e-book for everyone who wants to learn web-development and needs details roadmap with all required resources.

So far I got almost 200 new e-mail subscribers from this e-book.

Feels awesome.

We tried something different.

We looked at our Google Analytics over the last year to see which blog posts were the most popular. Picked the most popular and created a Sumo Me pop up promoting that. You can see what we did at http://www.evolvingsolutions.ca/

Still a work in progress, but saved time from creating a document with a list of tools, which we already have on our site anyway http://www.evolvingsolutions.ca/resources.html

Thoughts? Thanks!
