100 Miles

A few weeks ago, I told myself I was going to bike 100 miles in one week. 🚴‍♂️

But as the week went on I got “busy” with personal and business stuff… and Sunday came around with only 60 miles recorded.

That’s when I started rationalizing with myself…

“60 is great, man! You did great this week. I’m proud of you.”

“It’s raining. I’m hungover. It’s better to stay in.”

“60 miles are a lot. It’s good enough. I’ll pick it up next week.”

We all experience these moments of breaking commitments in business and life. If no one is around to notice, does it even matter? No one else will judge me, and I don’t even have to tell people I broke my promise to myself.

But it’s CRITICAL for us to follow through the promises and commitments we made for ourselves.

In today’s podcast, we talk about:

  • What to do when you start negotiating yourself out of self-commitment
  • Why it’s important to deliver the promises you made to yourself
  • How I kept my promise and got 100 miles at the end of the day

When was the last self-commitment goal you hit? Leave a comment below!

Hi Noah,

Well done …. complacency is a Biaccha … sneaks up on you and wraps a warm blanket around you… do it tomorrow.

Guest what tomorrow never comes…

Thanks for your share.

I’m training for an Ironman in August. It’s hard and very easy to make excuses like you almost did for yourself with the 100 miles. Setting those goals, writing them down, reading them daily and not giving up on you in key. For the last month I’ve absolutely slacked on setting goals and because of that my training isn’t going well. After listening to this podcast it reminds me to start with those good habits again. ?
