Untamed by Glennon Doyle

Got this book randomly and had no idea what it was about. It’s — strong. Great writing from a very interesting woman. The book Untamed by Glennon Doyle is more targeted for women but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Some really powerful nuggets in there. Here’s my highlights:

Untamed Book Review by Glennon Doyle

WE CAN DO HARD THINGS.

Your job, throughout your entire life, is to disappoint as many people as it takes to avoid disappointing yourself.

Sobriety is a decision to stop numbing and blaming away hard feelings.

The reward for enduring hard feelings was finding my potential, my purpose, and my people.

What is my anger tell me about me? Why am I activated here?

I have learned that if I want to rise, I have to sink first. I have to search for and depend upon th voice of inner wisdom instead of voices of outer approval. This saves me from living someone else’s life.

Where did we get the idea that there is some other, better, more perfect, unbroken way to be human?

If you are uncomfortable — in deep pain, angry, yearning confused – you don’t have a problem, you have a life. Being human is not hard because you’re doing it wrong, it’s hard because you’re doing it right.

Your body will tell you things your mind will talk you out of. Your body is telling you what direction life is in. Try trusting it. Turn away from what feels cold and toward what feels warm. When my body tells me the truth, I’ll believe it. I trust myself now, so I will no longer suffer voluntarily or silently or for long.

The moment after we don’t know what to do with ourselves is the moment we find ourselves. Right after itchy boredom is self-discovery.

When heartbreak rings, answer the door. Heartbreak is one of the greatest clues of our lives. When you feel the need to look away? Look there.

I think we are only bitter about other people’s joy in direct proportion to our commitment to keep joy from ourselves.

Great quote! Getting toxic people out of OUR lives, there’s no benefit to letting people drag us down or hold us back in life.

“Your job, throughout your entire life, is to disappoint as many people as it takes to avoid disappointing yourself.”
