Taylor Doesn’t Want to Quit His Job

Taylor Schulte has a full-time job…

But he REALLY wants to grow his passion project.

The problem?

His passion project makes zero dollars.

In today’s episode, I talk to Taylor about how to turn his passion project into a REAL business.

This is the second episode of my new series Noah’s Ark of Business, where I help real podcast listeners solve their biggest business problems.

We’re going to be talking about 3 BIG things:

  1. How to turn your side hustle into your MAIN business
  2. Why limitations are one of the best ways to innovate
  3. How to get the f*ck out of your own way to be successful

Enjoy.

Where are you struggling in your business? Let us know in the comments, so smart people can help you. 🙂

Great podcast – thanks! Just a couple of ideas struck me:

1) Taylor has a great business, which he has raised to first place in the Google search pages for hist target market , and has a large enough customer base to be resilient to losing a few customers, and with the potential to grow more than 50% with the existing team. To facilitate growth past the current team, and consistently maintain the same level of quality of service, will require good processes (a la “The E-Myth” – which Taylor and his team may already have in place). Good processes facilitate freedom for the business founder – Taylor in this case. These same processes (not least of which is the SEO process) will not just be useful within Taylor’s business, but are valuable assets that can be sold to other similar financial consulting businesses in other US cities. These products would be “passive” income as they probably only likely to change once a year or so for the financial advice process, and possibly irregularly for the SEO process when Google makes major changes (though good content is really never going to be punished)

2) Taylor has a high value (currently free) ebook that he uses to build his email list. Placing this as a paid product on the “thank you” page of other financial products who do not have an “upsell”, with a commission for every sale to the thank you page owner, could grow his mailing list significantly – with people who are already proven to be spending money on financial products. Even giving the thank you page owner 100% commission could be worth getting these prospects onto his mailing list for his future products.

Loved this episode. Agree with the other commenter that it would be cool for you (Noah) to help Taylor out for a year and have an update episode every 3 months to track progress / what’s working / what’s not. 1 month is not that much time to implement meaningful changes. An idea for Taylor on the affiliate front. There is a website called suredividend.com that is a great resource for self directed investors looking for dividend stocks. In fact, they have a paid newsletter called the sure retirement newsletter that could be an excellent fit for the listeners of Taylor’s podcast. I’m sure Taylor would have to do his diligence to see if this would be a fit for his audience, but I know the founder (Ben Reynolds) of the site, and respect his integrity and product ( i subscribe). He has over 100,000 people on his email list and has over 5,000 paying subscribers. I think Taylor could make way more money with an affiliate agreement (sure dividend or other) rather than getting paid on a cpm basis for basic advertising.
