Million Dollar Consulting by Alan Weiss

When I was dating a girl in college, I got invited to her father’s house in rural Illinois.

I went to their house…

And it was a MANSION.

Holy shit.

All I could say to her father was, “you’re so rich. How did you get so rich?”

His response?

He handed me Alan Weiss’ book Million Dollar Consulting. He said if I read it, that I could have a mansion too.

Years later, I recommend Alan’s book not just for consulting, but for ALL business.

In today’s episode, I talk to Alan Weiss about growing a successful business.

You’ll learn 3 main things:

  1. Why self-help books and motivational speakers DON’T help
  2. How to fix imposter syndrome (and increase real self-esteem)
  3. General lessons from someone who got fired and had to start from zero

Plus a lot more.

Stuff we talk about:

What was the #1 thing you learned from Alan? Reply and let me know…

Great conversation, I loved this! Alan is one of the few people I will listen to and act upon the words of. I have learned so much. One thing that stands out is to never accept unsolicited advice or questions that don’t feel right. The mastery of language is something we control and own and it is totally free.

Totally with you regarding Tony Robbins too?

I have been listening to this podcast almost every day. I also want to break free from ‘prison’ but I keep on postponing. I felt that “Get out” from Alan. I will oneday when I’m ready.

Noah, thank you for opening up my world through this interview . I have just started hearing your podcast, and you have become one of my favorites, making me switch from Tim Ferris and James Altucher to your channel. I cannot stop hearing from you. This interview Alan Weiss has been one of the most life-changing episodes by helping me in my business and personal life. Can’t wait to read his books. Again thank you for bringing him in. Have a great day.

Great podcast episode! My favorite so far. Partly because I always felt the same about the motivational speaker industry, partly because there’s lots of useful advice. Definitely going to check out his book.

This is one of my favorite podcasts you’ve done. I learned a ton from your interview with Alan. I had never heard of him before your interview. Now I’ve read one of his books and listened to much of his content. Thank you Noah, it was a very valuable interview!!!

Original Post:
We have a high-cost program that we’re beta testing with existing clients that is going well. We’re going to set up a framework to allow the business program to become more automated and drip the content to the end user. By automating the program we should be able to increase our profit and reduce our time spent on the program. We’re going to focus on completing the first parts of the program so we can begin selling it in May or June to begin acquiring revenue from new customers interested in joining the program.

Update:

We completed 50% of the program content that we’ll be able to take a more hands-off approach. We’re adding a human element that will offer our time to coach people if they need further assistance with their business. The reason we focused on completing 50% versus all of it is that it would delay us beginning to sell the program. We didn’t want to fatigue ourselves and wanted to start bringing revenue in.

We created ads to begin marketing the program and collecting email address to sell to new potential prospects. We had two key discoveries by completing the program and creating the ad designs.

1.) Creating the ads made us realize who our target avatar is and who we’ll sell to. Knowing this allowed us to see we needed to be more specific on who our customer was.

2.) We realize that we’ll have a second or separate program for the other avatar we’re trying to focus on.

This exercise is important since it allowed us to better target who we’re going to go after. We’re starting to collect emails and will begin signing up users on an ongoing basis.

I just wanted to update the group on my progress since I last listened to the podcast. True to my word, I uploaded most of my old content to my new webpage and went a step beyond by upgrading the email signup boxes and even added a pop up to see if that increases people adding themselves to the email list. Another thing that I did was maintain my weekly newsletter for the whole month and even had increased engagement from readers which was awesome. I think that by staying top of mind on a consistent schedule, my readers started to look forward to the newsletter. This also leas me to get a new client which was excellent.

I also went ahead and purchased one of the ebooks Alan Weiss offers on his website (I already own 3 of his paperbacks) which lead me to realize that I can do a similar format that I can offer to my clients with brand new content. I would offer it as my MVP to help prospects get used to the idea that I create great interview prep materials.

Thanks for the great podcast Noah.

Read this book following the podcast, it just helped me land a £20k contract with 50% up front. The proposal section helped a lot. OK, it’s not $400,000, but it’s a start. Thanks Noah and Alan!

This is one of the simplest and most effective podcasts you’ve had. After years of experiencing that over the top stuff Alan was talking about, centering on the fundamentals he talked about I realize a lot of the things I’ve implemented in my life and career before I heard this episode make a lot of sense of why I’ve been happy with many things that have worked out for me. Great work on the questions to him! Loved the episode.

Best interview so far Noah! Alan doesn’t mince his words and good to hear someone call out all the BS. One of the best quotes was:

“Have the courage of your talent, be courageous – know what your value is”

Amen to that.

The interview with Alan Weiss was to the point! When time is tight this is the type of interview that makes a difference. I ordered a couple of his books, hoping that they are as straight forward. @Noah- thank you for putting in the time and money to get these great interviews and sharing!

Just do it. Successful people go out and do the hard work.

I shy away from personal interaction like over the phone or reaching out to people.

Interesting to hear some criticism towards Tony R. – that is seldom to find. I remember Noah wrote an article about visiting one of the events and left it. This feedback makes me reflect a bit more about him.

Really loved the inspiration about getting the language right. As a non-native English speaker living abroad, this has become my everyday challenge and emphasize. This motivates me to keep practicing.

Further, I bought Alan’s Million Dollar Consulting a while ago and now feel like I need to finally finish it while I am building my digital marketing consultancy/agency (not decided yet).

Thanks for bringing on such a great value!

That line which says:
“You live a quality life, by helping others” ~ Alan Weiss.
That singular word is the whole essence of living and great lesson from this podcast.

I’m sure I’m too late to win any of your “prizes”. However, the prize was the many nuggets I took away from this podcast and the great questions you asked to get at the core of what Alan Weis was all about. I’m getting his book now. Thank you for sharing this awesome interview. I can’t believe this guy was so approachable, and that you were so amazing at interviewing him. Thank you.

Also, consider doing some autoplay on your website here similar to the podcast app … I almost went back to music, but want to keep listening. If it was just autoplayed to the next episode, that would be v cool. Thanks.

I been following Alan’s work for years and when I saw your email with “Million Dollar Consulting” title I couldn’t believe! Very well done Noah and people should be thankful that you introduced Alan Weiss to them 🙂

By the way, if you want to find out about his habits and time management techniques then buy his One Day MBA (part II):

You will not regret it (he also talks about power writing in there)!

Great interview Noah. The awareness of “Why self-help books and motivational speakers DON”T help was enlightening. Yet I was a sucked into that orbit like millions of others.
