My First Book Review of 2016: This Is Earl Nightingale

For my first book of 2016, I decided to pick up This is Earl Nightingale by Earl Nightingale. He used to be a huge radio personality back in the 1950s, and this book is filled with some of his best advice on building character and personal development.

Here are some of the lessons I learned from reading This is Earl Nightingale.

There is always a way to reach everything desirable.

By not asking her, he achieves the same result he would if he asked and she said, “no.”

Do you feel the world is treating you well? Attitude is everything. It controls our environment, our entire world.

Try to look at things in your home, work with new eyes. With eyes of creation. You can form a habit of seeing things as they could be.

Women are practical and have a way of thinking right to the middle of a problem.

An argument is like a highway accident—it can be spotted from far away—so slow down and approach with caution.

All growth depends upon activity. There is no development, physical or intellectual, without effort, and effort means work.

Instead of asking for a job, go to the person hiring and say “I know several ways your business can be increased and your profit picture improved.”

Becoming outstanding at what you do is a purpose worthwhile to any man or woman and will result in your developing the purpose / deep roots you seek.

A happy leader is person who realizes the importance of discipline and the importance in fairness in all things, tough when he needs to be and knowledgable about his business. The people that work for him will try to emulate him.

The man in business today who does not have a continuing program of study and self-improvement is obsolete, whether he recognizes the fact or not.

I’m sure successful people have problems too, but instead of complaining about them, they solve them.

The best place to start is where you are right now. Of one thing you can be certain: you will never be sorry for having been kind.

Successful men have a purpose strong enough to make them form the habits of doing things.

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Never compete-create. A successful lumber dealer every night would imagine the lumber business in 10 years, jot down the ideas that came to him and try to put them into effect in his business at once. Instead of waiting 10 years to pass.

People who have the greatest security are those who are doing the most to secure the situation in which they find themselves.

Those who envy the star performers in any field should realize that across the entire galaxy of achievement the stars are those who did not idly wish for success. They gave their dedication, their singleness of purpose, their days and nights, weeks, months, and years to an unceasing struggle for greater proficiency.

Don’t confuse seniority with accomplishment.
