But isn’t this nothing else like Futurephone and a toll number and provided within the US only. How can these companies make money? How can they survive without business model? There is no such thing as free lunch … I’m sure the catch/scam will pop up soon!

  • [...] I’m still trying to figure out how this works, and by the time I do the service may be gone. Regardless, Iowa based AllFreeCalls is letting people make phone calls to may foreign countries for free. Or rather, for the cost of a call to Iowa. You call the AllFreeCalls phone number, which is 712-858-8094, and at the prompt dial 011, the country code you are calling and the number you wish to call. The call is made at no charge to the user. A list of supported countries and prefixes is here, and the company says they are adding ten more countries in the coming weeks. [...]

Ils semblent exploiter une faille du système légal américain. En tout cas ca ne fait pas le poids en comparaison des offres triple play de Free et Neuf qui permettent d’appeler gratuitement un fixe depuis votre téléphone pratiquement partout dans le monde… [...]

A list of supported countries and prefixes is here, and the company says they are adding ten more countries in the coming weeks. Here’s my understanding of how this works: the founder created his own telephone company in Iowa. Iowa is apparently the only state taking advantage of an FCC kickback scheme that gives telco’s a portion of the fees generated from every inbound call to an Iowa number. So when you call the AllFreeCalls phone number, a portion of any long distance fees you are paying go to the company. The kickback is apparently authorized via the Universal Service Fund. These kickbacks are enough on average to more than cover the international outbound calling fees. [...]

So this isn’t much different from existing VOIP services like Jajah is it? If so, how. If not, how do you compete?

It isn’t? I can see your advantage, its like using a free calling card. But, I’m always near a computer when making an international call so it’s no added convenience to me. Neat stuff, though. :)

If you know how to use computer and internet then use Skype or Gtalk. Otherwise use IPdarshan video phone service to make unlimited free phone calls. It is another very good service from IPvaani. You can make video conference using this service by connecting it to your TV or monitor.

well I came upon this site so I thought that the phone number was too good to be true. true enough I found out that it was. I called the number and got an operator from verizon Wireless. She then proceeded too say that I could continue to call after I had been transfered to a live support operator. She also said that I would be able to make a call with my Verizon Wireless Prepaid phone card, Credit Card, or Debit Card. This is NOT a free phone number to call for international phone calls. Neither is this a scam..but it’s just not telling you the entire truth.
