The only method that will truly work would be if everyone boycotted a specific gas company for a month. For example for the month of June Speedway gets the boycott and no one buys gas at any Speedway location, July BP Amoco gets the boycott, August, Shell gets the boycott, Sept. Marathon, Oct. Citgo and so on.....
I really believe if we put this boycott together correctly and got media attention gas price will plummet. This no gas day will just force more people to the pump the day prior and the day after. You have to start hurting "big oil" like they are hurting us, in the wallet and one at a time. Mark my words it will work!!!!!!

One day won't make a difference.

Just don't buy gas from Exxon/Mobil period. Buy it everywhere and whoever else.

Force Exxon to lower their prices and other gas companies will follow suit.

Will people really stop filling up to their convenience?

Boycotts are only effective if we stop using the product we are boycotting! Unfortunately Americans are slaves to the petrol industry.

NO GAS DAY is the right direction, now let's get in one big group and make it an ONGOING action! Everyone can minimize their overall use on a regular basis.

Hey NOah,

funny.. its 6:17am on Saturday and i'm writing a feasability report on alternative transportation fuels to gaoline.

i don't think I will be participating in "boycott gas day, may 22nd" simply because i dont care enough. yes that is right. i said it. and the truth of the matter is, when confronted with the dilemma of convenience on may 22nd. ppl are going to just say screw it. and drive their car. to work. the strip joint. arbys...

according to "experts" in the energy biz.. oil is only going to be around for another 50-100 years at the rate we are using it.

polling 3 of my chemical engineering profs about hydrogen fuel. "it aint gonna replace gasoline as the next energy source, no way no how..."
seeing how hydrogen is explosive. and with cars smashing into each other.. kaboom.

ethanol doesn't seem too feasible either.. seeing how something like.. every square foot of the united states would need to grow corn in order to produce enough biomass to ferment... Brazil has a successful program with ethanol fueled cars, but thats because they have like.. 1/10th? the number of cars we do.. and sugar cane is cheap as fuck...

anyways.. i ride my bicycle pretty much every day.. 4+miles a day.. asa student it isn't really necssary for me to drive... but then again i knew 2 ppl at anheuser that rode bikes to work 2-3times a week.. (15-20miles)...

i just dont understand why ppl dont live closer to work...
i agree that conservation is a huge part of the solution...

americans are fat and lazy for the most part.. may22nd aint gonna do shit.. ppl are just gonna grumble at the pump.. and forget about it.

but props noah for bringing up this topic for discussion.. i'm glad to see that ur readers arent attacking each other and calling one another names.. good stuff. i miss u.

Jason-
Revolutions start with one person.

If you believe that what you're doing is right, your enthusiasm will infect others.

The the revolution consists of more than one person. And the revolution spreads.

By being defeatist before without giving no-gas day a chance, you become part of the problem.

And not part of the solution.

I admire your desire to change the world, but a boycott is not going to change gas prices. People have to have gas. It is just like cigarettes. You raise the price and people still buy. Has a boycott ever really worked? Did'nt people try that a couple weeks ago? I did not feel the impact.

I admire people for the effort, but it will make little impact. I know what you are going to say...it's people like you that make it not work. And that is exactly my point. There are too many people like me, and many that are far worse.
